Tile & Grout Cleaning in Santa Barbara

Family-Owned Tile & Grout Cleaning Since 1978

Kelly Cleaning crews drive up from our Ventura office to bring tile and grout cleaning to Santa Barbara homes and businesses. Ceramic, porcelain, Saltillo, natural stone and vinyl tile all qualify, along with the grout between them, and our high-pressure steam clears out the grime, mildew and soap scum that mopping never reaches. Color sealing can follow. Family-owned since 1978.

  1. Inspection Before SteamBefore any steam goes on, an inspection settles which cleaning method suits the surface in front of the crew.
  2. Vinyl Tile TooVinyl floors are on the list too: LVT, VCT, rigid core and sheet vinyl, with the existing finish setting the method.
  3. Spanish Tile TypesTalavera, cement, terracotta and Saltillo tile are textured and porous, so the cleaning method changes from one to the next.

Oil and wax-based cleaners can leave a film in grout that usually attracts more dirt, according to the Tile Council of North America.

Spanish-Style Tile, Ocean Air and Sandy Floors

Saltillo and terracotta floors, glazed tile in kitchens and baths, tiled patios and entries all wear faster in a Santa Barbara house near the water. Ocean air, moisture and sand tracked in from the beach are the reasons. The sand grinds into the floor, and in bathrooms the grout stays damp long enough for mildew and salt residue to settle in.

We serve Montecito and Carpinteria too, so the same crews and the same process reach tile up and down the south coast. Businesses get the same care on their tile floors, from a single kitchen up to large commercial VCT installations.

Mildew and Grout

Getting Mildew and Grime Out of Grout Lines

Grout is porous, and in a damp coastal bathroom it holds moisture long after the shower is off. That is where mildew and grime settle in, and why a grout line can stay dark no matter how hard it gets scrubbed by hand. High-pressure steam gets into the grout and lifts out what a brush cannot.

We inspect the tile before choosing a method, since Saltillo, glazed ceramic and natural stone are each handled in their own way. Marble reacts badly to acid and travertine etches easily, so in a Santa Barbara bathroom with stone around the tile, neither one sees a product meant for ceramic.

  • Inspection Firstthe surface decides the method
  • High-Pressure Steamdriven down into the grout
  • Mildewlifted out of damp grout lines
  • Salt and Soap Residuecleared from the surface

Color Sealing

Grout Color Sealing for Homes

Color sealing is the step that comes after the clean. It puts a protective coat on the grout lines that resists new stains and moisture, and it turns blotchy, uneven grout back into a single color. You can skip it, but in a house this close to the ocean we suggest it for the bathrooms, kitchen and entries.

Stone floors and counters that need polishing or scratch removal are a separate job from grout sealing. Saltillo and other clay tile are handled through Spanish tile cleaning, which uses methods made for porous, uneven surfaces.

Questions About Tile and Grout Cleaning

Still have a question?

Talk to the family-owned team that has been cleaning homes and businesses in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties since 1978. Quotes are free and most estimates can be scheduled the same week.

How much does tile and grout cleaning cost in Santa Barbara?

Price depends on the size of the job and the condition of what we are cleaning, so every tile and grout cleaning job in Santa Barbara is quoted on its own, free, by calling (805) 644-5308 or requesting one online, and first-time customers in Santa Barbara take 10% off.

Do you clean tile in Montecito and Carpinteria too?

Yes. Montecito and Carpinteria get the same crews and process as our Santa Barbara customers, and we cover all of Ventura County too.

Can mildew be removed from grout in a damp bathroom?

Yes. Steam at high pressure draws the mildew out of the grout, and a color seal applied afterward helps keep the moisture from coming back in.

Is color sealing part of every tile job?

No. Color sealing is optional, and you decide whether to add it after the clean. We suggest it for bathrooms, kitchens and entries.

Is your tile cleaning safe on marble and travertine?

Yes. Ceramic tile products stay off both stones, since acid damages marble and travertine is quick to etch. Polishing and scratch removal fall under Santa Barbara stone cleaning.

Can you clean Saltillo tile in a home?

Yes. Saltillo is porous and textured, so it gets its own method instead of the one used on glazed ceramic.

How do I book a tile estimate?

Call (805) 644-5308, request a quote online or stop by our store, and our team will reach out to set a time. Estimates are usually on the calendar within the week.
